Grape Harvest Report
We are getting calls about the Concord Grape U-pick. This year’s grape pick is scheduled for Saturday, September 12th.
We were hit with a major frost on May 12th. Grapes have two fruitful buds during growth. If everything goes right, the first bud blooms out and bears fruit and the pod looks nice and big. If something like a frost or freeze kills the first bud, the second bud may bloom and the pod will be about half, or less, as big. A really bad frost or freeze can kill some or all buds.
We are explaining this to say that we have only a SMALL crop this year and we may have to limit folks to one bucket. We often pick for a week or two. These grapes will not last long!
We will also open the grape field we usually save for our own harvest, but they will NOT be ripe until later in September and has even fewer grapes. As always, we look forward to sharing what we have and look forward to seeing your smiling faces on September 12th!
